In last night’s episode, we got a treat with a guest appearance by Elizabeth Banks. She plays Sal, and is Cam and Mitch’s friend from back in the day. They were single and partied together all the time, but now that Cam and Mitch have a family, they don’t get together as much.
Sal is your typical loving-the-single-life party girl. She visits because she has exciting news. Turns out she’s getting married the next day and wants Cam and Mitch to be her best men. They are excited and support her. They tell her how great being with that one person is and how they can have couple dates.
Well this freaks her out, she thinks that’s boring. The day of the wedding, they’re pre-drinking and she gets cold feet and starts making out with the bartender. Cam is upset because she is not taking the whole marriage thing seriously. When they get to the altar, Cam is determined to stop the wedding. Sal then tells her future husband that she can’t wait to do boring things with him and thanks Cam and Mitch for inspiring her. Cam starts bawling and they get married.
Gloria and Jay on the other hand have been having problems with Gloria’s breastfeeding. She does it freely in public and Jay does not think it’s appropriate. They get a call from Manny’s art teacher and she says Manny has been drawing women’s breasts and bodies. Jay thought it was because Gloria has been walking around freely. Turns out Manny is in love with their new nanny. The nanny quickly bursts his bubble and he’s heartbroken.
At the Dunphy household Haley starts complimenting Claire and being nice. Claire gets excited because it has been a while since Haley has been nice to her. She takes a chance and asks Haley to dinner and to Claire’s surprise, she says yes!
The night of the dinner they drive Alex to a coffee shop where she is set to perform. Haley bumps into her friends and decides to go off with them instead of having dinner with Claire. A little later Haley shows up and admits to Claire that she felt bad and did want to hang out with her. While they are discussing this, Alex starts playing and she is surprisingly really good. They jump up and congratulate her and Alex gets embarrassed and shoos them away. Haley and Claire cannot believe it and walk away with their mouths open.
Since the Dunphy ladies are out and about, Phil decides to hang out with Luke. Luke however, is having lady trouble. Phil decides to help and gets Luke a date. Luke was too shy to message the girl, so Phil messaged her.
Phil goes to the bar area of the restaurant and the girl’s mother introduces herself. They start hitting it off and Phil senses her coming onto him. He immediately stops her and let’s her know he’s happily married. She takes it offensively and ruins Luke’s date. The girl’s mother does not want her to see Luke again, but that only makes her want to see Luke even more. Luke claims the girl is going through a rebellious stage and thanks his dad for the date.
As always, Modern Family gives us good comedy with good story lines.
