'Modern Family' recap: Valentine's Day episode - 'Heart Broken'

Modern Family had another special Valentine’s Day episode last night. Claire and Phil step out for a romantic encounter at a bar. They pretend to be strangers and hit on each other. As things get steamy, Claire admits she’s feeling light headed, Phil thinking he has worked his charm better than expected. However, she ends up fainting. He is convinced he was too sexy for her which is why she passed out. The doctor tells them she had a small abnormality with her heart which caused her to faint. Claire tells Phil she is fine, and wants to keep the night going. Phil on the other hand is scared and just wants her to rest. She keeps coming back at him with lingerie and teasing him but he refuses. She doesn’t want him to take care of her or anyone else at that. Claire is the rock of the family, she takes care of everyone. This time she has to let go, and let be taken care of.

As for Gloria and Jay’s valentine, they were supposed to have a quiet evening at home. Due to Claire’s illness Gloria has to take care of the baby and Lily. Jay was desperate to entertain the kids, he only needed a few minutes. Those minutes never came. Gloria tells us how she is not with Jay because of his money but because she is genuinely hot and heavy for Jay. At the end of the night they realize it is going to take some time before they can enjoy a night together.

Meanwhile, in Cam and Mitch’s situation they are throwing a Valentine ’s Day party. Cam tells Mitch he has to be a little more lose and fun. So Mitch takes back a few drinks and the party is on. They wake up the next morning all hung over and try to remember what happened the night before. Cam blames Mitch for the mess and the out of control night. When they are talking back and forth they, Dillon, Haley’s ex, comes in and thanks them for letting him move in. Cam and Mitch’s mouth drops. They don’t have the heart to tell him he can’t. That is quickly solved because Lily tells him to get out and that her house is not a hotel. Dillon leaves and thanks her for her honesty.
