'Nation's worst deadbeat dad' pleads guilty

By Deana DeLisio,

Robert Sand, whom the feds have labeled the "nation’s worst deadbeat dad," pleaded guilty on Thursday for owing more than $1.2 million to three children from two previous marriages.

Sand, 50, has been on the run living in Thailand, but was luckily caught in the Philippines without proper identification and was taken into custody, reported The New York Daily News.

In a United States District Court in Central Islip on Long Island, the approximate $1.2 million includes interest and penalties.

Sand also admitted to the judge that he had fled first to Florida and then to Thailand, as stated in NBC New York.

Apparently, Sand’s mother, Rita Sand, is the only one on his side at the moment, although she admits to her son being a “deadbeat” just like his very own father.

Rita Sand claims that her son would occasionally call her on occasions like her birthday or Mother’s Day, but would not discuss the matter at hand.

Sand, who was selling motorcycles in Thailand, was earning $500,000 to $600,000 a year, as he was in charge of automobile auctions, before his business failed.
