Do you remember Rory Mcllroy? Well you should, since he is still the No. 1 ranked golfer in the World Golf Rankings.
Ever since missing the cut at Abu Dhabi last month, Mcllroy has been a ghost. The reasoning is because he is with instructor Michael Bannon working on getting a grip on his new Nike clubs.
Plenty of people in the golf world have been voicing their concern about Mcllroy and his decision to change clubs at this moment in time. Nick Faldo calls the move “dangerous” since Mcllroy, 23, is at the top of his game and the world.
"Rory's momentum was very good last year but it can be very dangerous to change clubs," said two-time major champion Sandy Lyle of Scotland. "It's the driver and the fairway woods that are the biggest issues. Rory will adapt to the irons pretty quickly, although he will have teething problems.”
Mcllroy is set to return to tournament play this week in the World Golf Championships Accenture Match Play at Dove Mountain in Marana, Arizona, reports Yahoo. He will go up against Shane Lowery in the first round. Mcllroy was beaten by Hunter Mahan in last year’s final round.
No. 2 world ranked golfer Tiger Woods and three time winner at the WGC will be matched up against Charles Howell III.
The WGC begins Wednesday and goes until Sunday. Coverage can be found on the Golf Channel and NBC.
