The older brother of Olympian Oscar Pistorius had his Twitter account hacked into Saturday. The hacker posted a tweet stating that Oscar, who is on trial for allegedly murdering his model girlfriend, would take on several interviews with the media-which was never agreed upon.
CNN reports that Carl Pistorius and sister Aimee opted not to tweet over the weekend out of respect for their brother and Reeva Steenkamp, who was shot and killed over a week ago.
Following the hacking, Carl and Anne have opted to suspend all of their social media accounts. Janine Hills, a spokeswoman for the family, released a statement following the faux tweet saying, “It is most unfortunate that during this sensitive time, someone would choose to hack into Oscar Pistorius' older brother, Carl Pistorius' Twitter handle. Carl did not tweet this afternoon, out of respect to Oscar and Reeva."
Hills heard about the alleged interview on the radio and called to confirm the news when she found out about the hacking. "This is untrue," Hills explained to CNN separately. "I spoke to Oscar myself. He has not spoken to anybody and does not plan on doing any interviews.”
Pistorius was released on bail Friday following the Feb. 14 death of Steekemp, which Pistorious is being charged with. He was released after posting $113,000 bail.
