Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis in talks for ‘Annie’ remake

By Lena Finkel,

The Annie remake is finally underway! After hiring director Will Guck last week, the film is now in talks with Oscar nominee Quvenzhané Wallis for the starring role.

The movie, produced by Will Smith and Jay-Z, was announced back in January 2011, according to Deadline, but unfortunately little progress has been made on the film until now. When Smith and Jay-Z first began talking about the film, Smith’s daughter Willow was intended to play the part of Annie; however, she seems to have outgrown the role.

According Black Film, Willow told her father, “You know Daddy, I don’t think so. I have a better idea, how about I just be 12.”

And now rumors have it that 9-year-old Quvenzhané Wallis could be up for the role! Wallis is currently nominated for an Oscar for Best Actress for her role in Beasts of the Southern Wild, making her the youngest ever nominated for the honor, reported The Daily Mail.

Of course, producer Jay-Z is no stranger to the movie Annie - he infamously reworked the classic song “It’s a Hard Knock Life” into his hit single “Hard Knock Life (Ghetto Anthem).”
