If coffee and orange juice just isn’t cutting it for you at breakfast anymore, PepsiCo has a new Mountain Dew breakfast drink for you. On Monday, the company announced Kickstart, a new Dew flavor just for the mornings.
Pepsi said in a press release that the drink will be available in two flavors: Orange Citrus and Fruit Punch. The company says that each 16-oz. can only has 16 calories and has 5 percent fruit juice added to the traditional Dew taste.
According to The Associated Press, Pepsi doesn’t think that this drink is just another energy drink. They say it has less caffeine than Red Bull or Monster drinks. Pepsi also stressed that there are no mysterious ingredients that have raised concerns about energy drinks. There’s also artificial sweeteners used, which is how the company can keep a can at 80 calories.
“Our consumers told us they are looking for an alternative to traditional morning beverages - one that tastes great, includes real fruit juice and has just the right amount of kick to help them start their days,” Greg Lyons, Vice President, Marketing, Mountain Dew, said in a statement. “We heard them loud and clear and created a completely new offering with Kickstart to give them exactly what they asked for.”
Kickstart drinks will begin appearing in supermarkets at the end of the month. Pepsi is offering samples at KickstartFirstTaste.com.
