Actor Peter Sarsgaard is heading to television for his first regular series gig on AMC’s The Killing. He will star as season three’s villain.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the Knight and Day actor will play Tom Seward, a man who has been in and out of trouble with the law since age 10. He is on death row and needs to dominate every confrontation he has.
The Killing was cancelled after season two earned disappointing ratings, but was officially revived last month. Netflix was reportedly interested in joining as a partner for season three, but its role hasn’t been confirmed. The show is produced by Fox TV and stars Mireille Enos and Joel Kinnaman will both return.
The Hollywood Reporter notes that Sarsgaard isn’t the only new actor joining the show. Elias Koteas will play Enos’ new partner, while Amy Seimetz will play the other missing child. Max Fowler has also joined the cast as a hustler.
Season three will focus on the case of a missing girl that is connected to several murders that Sarah Linden previously investigated. It will take place a year after the Rosie Larsen investigation.
Sarsgaard recently starred in Lovelace and Green Lantern. His other films include Boys Don’t Cry, An Education and Woody Allen’s upcoming Blue Jasmine.
