Sheryl Phillips, the mother of American Idol Season 11 winner Phillip Phillips, had been arrested for DUI on Thursday.
The authorities told TMZ, an undercover unit observed Sheryl moving her van constantly across lanes of traffic in Albany, GA, and pulled her over.
The Albany Herald quoted Maj. Bill Berry from Albany-Dougherty Drug Unit, who said, "The driver was all over the road, so my officer pulled her over."
After stopping Sheryl, who appeared on few episodes of American Idol, the authorities easily identified that she was under the influence of either alcohol and/or drugs.
The police told her to take a sobriety test, and she was unable to complete it.
"She was taken to the hospital for a blood test and has been charged with DUI-less safe," Berry said.
They took her into custody and moved to a nearby hospital, and later jail, after doctors decided that she was well enough to be transferred.
She was charged with DUI-less safe because according to the police, they did not detect significant influences on her, but could not complete the sobriety test.
"They didn't smell or detect any alcohol on her person, but she couldn't complete the field sobriety test, so our guys charged her with less safe since she was under the influence of something," Maj. Bill Berry said.
The blood test result will take weeks to come back.
