Popular polar bear Knut has a sculpture, displaying in Museum

By Xingye Li,

Polar bear Knut is still one of the most popular animal stars in Germany. Recently, a life-size model with the cover of Knut’s own skin goes on display in Berlin.

Sky News reported that the sculpture shows one of Knut’s favorite poses and will be displayed in Berlin’s natural history museum for one month. The museum emphasizes that Knut has not been stuffed. The sculpture is a synthetic body with the real skin, by applying the technique of dermoplasty. The eyes are glasses.

According to NBC News, Knut became famous when his mother rejected him and he was raised by a zookeeper. He is the star in Berlin Zoo for 4 years until his sudden death of an epileptic fit in March 2011. He has appeared on several magazine covers, in films and in several merchandises.

Despite some of the criticism, the museum says that everyone can have a chance to see Knut. The sculpture will later be added to the museum’s scientific collections after displaying to the public.
