Actress Emily VanCamp, who currently stars in the ABC drama Revenge, is reportedly close to signing a deal to star in Captain America: The Winter Soldier.
Deadline reported late Friday that the TV veteran is set to return to the big screen.
In addition to Revenge, VanCamp has starred in Brothers and Sisters and Everwood. She has appeared in a few films, including The Ring Two and Carriers.
The search for a new leading lady began in light of the fact that Captain America: The First Avenger’s Hayley Atwell will not be returning. In October, Mary Elizabeth Winstead was one of many reportedly being considered for the role, but it looks like VanCamp has beaten her out to star opposite Chris Evans.
Over the summer, Marvel confirmed that brothers Joe and Anthony Russo will direct the film. Frank Grillo also landed the new villain role as Crossbones. Others joining the cast include Cobie Smulders, Anthony Mackie and Sebastian Stan.
It is not known when production on The Winter Soldier will start, but Disney has announced that it will hit theaters on April 4, 2014. Evans will be back and Scarlett Johansson is in talks to play her Black Widow character again.
Captain America: The First Avenger was released in 2011 and directed by Joe Johnston.
