Rihanna launches fashion collection with River Island

Singer Rihanna debuted her fashion collection — Rihanna for River Island — at London’s fashion week Saturday night.

USA Today reported the show provided a new outlet to show off her creative skills and step into something positive. Recent attention has been on her questionable relationship with Chris Brown.

Rihanna’s contribution to British high street retailer River Island is part of an effort to expand the brand internationally.

Reuters reported Rihanna for River Island is dressed-down yet raunchy. Models wore pieces such as mesh crop tops, yellow shift dresses, thigh high slits and denim tops.

Los Angeles model Tolula Adeyemi said, “I loved it — it’s so Rihanna, it’s got Rihanna’s name all over it.”

Partnering with a celebrity is a popular strategy for retailers to generate buzz about their brand, but fashion industry and marketing experts say it’s not always a reliable one for long-term success.

This is not Rihanna’s first foray into fashion. In 2011, she worked with Georgio Armani, who praised her fashion talents.
