Rihanna originally intended to sing with Fun. on ‘We Are Young’

By Lena Finkel,

Despite the fact that the band Fun. was pretty much unknown before their hit single “We Are Young,” the rock band really wanted Rihanna to guest sing on their track.

And according to MTV News, it wasn’t such a far reach because she almost did it!

The song's producer Jeff Bhasker told MTV, “We were shooting for the stars on everything and she was kind of a muse. Someone tried to reach out and I now she heard the song and liked it.”

So, what happened then?

According to Bhasker, “some wires got crossed.”

But don’t worry, the producer is thrilled with the end result. He says, “Everything works out for a reason and Janelle (Monae) worked out to be the perfect voice. She brought the right element of a great soulful flavor that we wanted for the album.”

The song turned out to be a great success, of course, and has been certified five-times platinum and reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100.

The credit is certainly at least partially due to Bhasker, who is one of the most successful song producers today and has worked with Taylor Swift, Jay-Z, and Kanye West. According to NPR, he was also nominated for the Grammy for Best Nonclassical Producer this past Sunday.
