Rihanna's debut collection with River Island debuts to lukewarm reviews

By Gina DiFalco,

Rihanna debuted her first clothing line at London Fashion Week this past weekend to some less than desirable reviews.

The “Stay” singer, who got a bottle thrown at her by a heckler at a nightclub while she was in town, was on hand to present her River Island collection during the prestigious fashion event.

According to The Huffington Post, it was described as a “horror show” by The Daily Beast and there were a few reasons why.

Firstly, she was an hour late to the show, which wasn’t part of the official lineup for London Fashion week like Katie Holmes’ Holmes & Yang and Victoria Beckham’s lines have been.

But the real problems reportedly lied in the clothes and the question of whether she had much to do with them in the first place. Rihanna reportedly worked with designer Adam Selman through e-mail and over the phone, then she attended the final fittings. Also, there were a lot of revealing clothes in the form of mesh and bra-tops that critics didn't like.

Pedestrian TV said of the collection, “It wasn't Rihanna Plane levels of bad, but it wasn't great. The collection itself was - to borrow a phrase - basic, but perhaps that was the point.”
