Sarah Michelle Gellar is still in search of a big TV hit following the end of Buffy The Vampire Slayer. Her last shot was Ringer on the CW, but that show was cancelled after one season. Now, she’s using a different tactic, picking a comedy project at CBS that co-stars Robin Williams.
Entertainment Weekly confirms that Gellar has been tapped to play Sydney Roberts, the daughter of Robin Williams’ character, Simon Roberts. The two run their advertising firm together.
The pilot, titled Crazy Ones, has been in the works since last summer, when Williams was reportedly interested in working with David E. Kelly, creator of Ally McBeal. 20th Century Fox TV will be producing the new comedy, and CBS picked up the pilot earlier this month.
According to Deadline, Jason Winer has been hired to direct and will executive produce with Kelly.
This will be Williams’ first regular series gig since Mork & Mindy, the show that made him a household name and helped him launch his movie career.
Gellar is best known for her role on Buffy, which ended in 2003. She’s also appeared in two Scooby-Doo films, as well as The Return, and Possession.
