Hold on to your classic Monopoly iron piece, because the iconic symbol will never pass go again.
The iron, which Hasbro introduced in the 1930s, is getting the boot after a fan vote of 8 percent during the game’s international “Save Your Token” promotion. Apparently fans didn’t want to cease their attempts to actually get that thimble on their fingers.
The Scottie dog, which received the most votes at 29 percent, may have some new competition in the animal kingdom. A cat game piece will be introduced this summer after receiving a vote of 31 percent. The feline beat out a guitar, helicopter, diamond ring and toy robot.
"The tokens are one of the most iconic parts of the Monopoly game, and we know that people are emotionally tied to their favorite one," Eric Nyman, Senior Vice President and Global Brand Leader for Hasbro Gaming said in a statement.
Nyman added that, “We know that cat lovers around the world will be happy to welcome the new cat token into the Monopoly game.”
