‘Silver Linings Playbook’ actress Jacki Weaver to star in CBS pilot

By Daniel S Levine,

Jacki Weaver, who is up for an Oscar for her performance in Silver Linings Playbook, has been cast in a CBS pilot titled The McCarthy’s.

According to TV Line, the series focuses on a sports crazed Boston family. Brian Gallivan, who worked on NBC’s short-lived Chelsea Handler series Are You There, Chelsea, and Easy A’s Will Gluck created the series. Fred Savage will direct the pilot.

Weaver has been cast as Marjorie, the matriarch of the family. Her husband will be played by Rescue Me actor Jack McGee. Majorie likes to spend time with her gay son Ronny while the rest of the family watches sports.

Weaver’s profile has been on the rise since she starred in the Australian film Animal Kingdom. The Hollywood Reporter notes that she also earned a supporting actress nomination for that film.

Weaver, 65, stars as Bradley Cooper’s mother in David O. Russell’s Silver Linings Playbook. Her nomination was a surprise and helped make the film the first since Reds to receive acting nominations in all four categories.

“I've had people walking up to me on the street, and apparently the website is filled with messages from people saying how it resonated with them,” she recently told BuzzSugar about the public’s reaction to the film. “David O. Russell has gone on record saying he made the film partly so that his son would not feel that he was on his own, and I think this is proven by the response it's had.”
