At the last major award show leading up to The Oscars, Silver Linings Playbook won big, taking home four awards.
Most impressively, the film took home the top honor of Best Picture, beating out expected winner Beasts of the Southern Wild.
David O. Russell also won for best director and best screenplay. He mostly thanked his son, claiming as he held his trophy, “The last time I held one of these in my hands was 19 years ago for best first feature. My son was 1 year old, and he grew up to be a man who taught me about a lot of things. He gave me this movie, so I want to thank him,” according to The Hollywood Reporter.
Jennifer Lawrence also won for Best Female Lead.
Although Beasts of the Southern Wild was the favorite to win in multiple categories, the movie only took home one award for Best Cinematography, reported USA Today.
Silver Linings Playbook producer Donna Gigliotti seemed particularly shocked by the outcome and said, “This is unexpected. Beasts of the Southern Wild is a fantastic film. I really thought it was going to win,” from the podium.
