One of the new pieces of viral marketing the studios are using now is the ‘motion poster,’ which is just a short, animated version of a single poster image. Paramount has released one for Star Trek Into Darkness on Tuesday and also posted a short featurette on the film.
The motion poster, posted at AceShowBiz, uses the already well-known teaser image of Benedict Cumberbatch’s villain overlooking the damage he’s caused to planet earth. It includes the voiceover used in the trailer that was released in December.
There’s still not much known about Cumberbatch’s villain other than that he is being called James Harrison. Paramount’s official Facebook page used the name to refer to the character for a new image posted Monday.
Paramount also released a short, minute-and-a-half featurette that doesn’t reveal much. It just features director J.J. Abrams and actors Zachary Quinto and Chris Pine talking about how much bigger Into Darkness is than the 2009 film. However, Abrams did reveal in an MTV News interview that fans will get to see the Klingons in this film.
Into Darkness hits theaters on May 17.
