Steven Tyler admitted to having spent over $5 million on cocaine throughout his career as a rock star before finally quitting the drug.
In his 2011 memoir, Does the Noise in My Head Bother You?, Tyler estimated having spent an outrageous $20 million on the addiction.
According to TMZ, Tyler openly confessed how much his habit actually cost him on Australia’s 60 Minutes this week.
“Probably, realistically, 5 or 6 [million], easy ... You could also say I snorted half of Peru, but, you know, it's what we did.”
Tyler has been open about his addiction for some time. In 2011, he told Matt Lauer he “needed that cocaine.” He eventually realized the damage it caused, also saying, “It took my children away, it took my marriages away. I was on my knees.”
E! News reports that Tyler has been sober for 20 years now. He entered rehab in 2008 and 2009 to avoid potential complications with the strong pain medications he was taking while recovering from surgeries and chronic injuries.
Tyler was diagnosed with Hepatitis C in 2003, which he attributes to his past intravenous drug use.
