Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles fans will have to wait a little longer to see their favorite heroes in a half-shell on the big screen again. Paramount has pushed the film back three weeks.
According to Deadline, the Michael Bay-produced reboot will now hit theaters on June 6, 2014. It was originally supposed to be out on May 16. While TMNT currently has that June weekend by itself, it will have to compete with Jurassic Park VI the following weekend.
The film has been in the works for years now, but just got moving again in the past year. Last March, Bay infamously caused controversy among TMNT fans when he said that the Turtles will be aliens rather than mutants. The film was also retitled Ninja Turtles. There were plans for a Christmas 2013 release, which were scrapped when production was halted over the summer.
The latest news on a new date follows Bay’s recent announcement that Megan Fox has been cast. She’ll likely play April O’Neil, the Turtles’ sidekick.
As Zap2It notes, Production Weekly tweeted that production on the new TMNT is set to start in April in New York.
Jonathan Liebesman is directing with a script by Evan Daugherty.
