Tom Cruise filed a $50 million defamation case last October against Bauer Media Group, whose Life & Style Magazine reported a story suggesting Cruise “had abandoned his daughter Suri”.
The Huffington Post reported that Cruise is demanding the identity of the unknown source who said that he abandoned Suri, the company’s policy and practice towards the validity of sources and all the published stories on Tom Cruise.
The publisher will protect the sources and also seek demands such as details on the time spent between Cruise and Suri after the divorce, Suri’s psychological state after their divorce and Cruise’s past litigation experience, reported Hollywood Reporter.
Regarding the lawsuit, Cruise’s lawyer Bert Fileds said: “Tom doesn’t go around suing people. He’s not a litigious guy. But when these sleaze peddlers try to make money with disgusting lies about his relationship with his child, you bet he’s going to sue.”
According to Hollywood Reporter, this kind of lawsuit can be settled peacefully. Cruise’s ex-wife Katie Holmes also filed a $50 million lawsuit against American Media due to suggestions of her being a drug addict. It was settled after the publisher apologized to her and made a donation to charity.
