Top 10 Best Actors who haven't won an Oscar

By Daniela Duron,

When naming A-list actors, these ten actors are at the top of the list. They just have one thing missing – an Oscar. Take a look of some of the best actors who have yet to take home an Academy Award:

10. Robert Downey, Jr.

Robert Downey, Jr. has two nominations at the Academy Awards, once for Chaplin in 1992 and another for Tropic Thunder in 2008. He does prefer to go with light hearted roles (Tony Stark, Sherlock Homes) over more serious roles, but if he chose the right role - he could surely win an award.

9. Harrison Ford

Harrison Ford has only gotten nominated for an Oscar one time, for Witness in 1985. This is a big surprise, considering his great career and the long list of successful movies he's been in, like Star Wars and Indiana Jones.

8. Edward Norton

Edward Norton has two nominations, for Primal Fear in 1996 and American History X in 1998. He has also appeared in hit movies such Fight Club and The Italian Job and is also a screenwriter, producer and director, but has yet to win an Oscar.

7. Brad Pitt

Brad Pitt is one of the first stars people look for at the Oscars, but he surprisingly has never taken home an award. He has been nominated for Best Actor for The Curious Case of Benjamin Button and Moneyball (which was also nominated for Best Picture) and for Best Supporting Actor for 12 Monkeys.

6. Samuel L. Jackson

Despite having an incredible career and being named the highest grossing actor of all time by The Guinness Book of World Records, Samuel L. Jackson has shockingly only had one Oscar nomination (for Pulp Fiction). And this year won't be the year he wins one either, as he got snubbed by the Academy for his role in Django Unchained.

5. Johnny Depp

Johnny Depp has been nominated at the Oscars three times, for Pirates of the Caribbean, Sweeney Todd, and Finding Neverland. Depp is an incredible actor, so it’s surprising he hasn’t taken home an award yet.

4. Tom Cruise

Tom Cruise has been nominated three times, for Born on the Fourth of July in 1989, Jerry Maguire in 1996 and Magnolia in 1999, but has never won. Cruise is known for his box office hits, but unfortunately for him, he’s not as successful at the Academy Awards.

3. Peter O’Toole

Peter O’Toole has been nominated for eight Oscars (his first being in 1962 for Lawrence of Arabia and his most recent being in 2006 for Venus) – but has never won. Despite his great career, the Academy won’t be able to give him an Oscar. Last year, just before his 80th birthday, O’Toole announced his retirement, saying "It is time for me to chuck in the sponge. To retire from films and stage. The heart for it has gone out of me; it won’t come back.”

2. Will Smith

When naming great actors, Will Smith is at the top of the list. But he surprisingly has never won an Oscar and has only been nominated twice, for Ali in 2002 and The Pursuit of Happyness in 2007. After losing the Best Actor award in 2007, Smith said, “I actually felt like it was my time and I still didn't win it! I was like, 'Hey, it's my time! Wait; hold on, that other boy's taken my thing!'"

1. Leonardo DiCaprio

What does Leonardo DiCaprio have to do to get an Oscar? Every year, it seems like DiCaprio is once again on the snubbed list instead of the nominations list. He has been nominated three times before, but he just can’t seem to get nominated for his roles – let alone take home an award. DiCaprio is known for his powerful movies - Blood Diamond and The Departed, for example - so hopefully he’ll get his well-deserved Oscar soon enough.
