Toyota Prius C

By John Neal,

Hybrid cars are friendly to the environment but not so much to your wallet. Enter the Toyota Prius c, an affordable hybrid that's perfect for urban use.

The Prius c has a 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine and electric motor that puts out 99 horsepower. It may lack power - something typical in a hybrid - but it makes up for it with exceptional gas mileage. The Prius c gets an estimated 53 miles per gallon on city roads, 46 on highways.

For a small car, it is remarkably comfortable for adults. Unless you are a very tall person, the Prius c has ample head- and legroom in the front and back seats. Trunk space is lacking for a hatchback, but it gets the job done. It is a perfect car for young adults without families and who don't need a whole lot of space.

What we really like about the Prius c - besides the gas mileage - is that it is incredibly easy to use. The navigation and infotainment options and climate control system are user-friendly. In fact it is quite possibly the easiest and most efficient system on the market today.

The list of standard safety features is pretty impressive, too. Power disc brakes, 4-wheel anti-lock braking system, traction control, hill start assist control, and enhanced vehicle stability control are just a few of the features that make the Prius c a safe vehicle to use.

The basic Prius c starts at less than $19,000 but you can get a reasonably equipped one for less than $25,000. In terms of a hybrid - especially one that offers amazing fuel effeciency - that's a great value.
