Two Texas women were recently convicted of kidnapping a boy at 8 months old and hiding him for 8 years.
According to the Associated Press, the San Augustine jury deliberated for two hours before finding Gloria Walker and her daughter, Krystle Tanner guilty of kidnapping Migual Morin in Houston in 2004. Morin is now 8 years old. Walker was found guilty of injury to a child while Tanner was guilty to reckless injury to a child.
Tanner could be sentenced to up to 20 years in prison while Walker was sentenced to 30 years in prison, reports USA Today. The women told the jury that Morin’s mother gave them the child.
The women kept Morin out of school while he was in hiding. Both women testified that they never injured the boy.
Morin has been undergoing weekly therapy with his family.
San Augustine County Sheriff’s Chief Deputy Gary Cunngham told The Associated Press, "I hope years later (Miguel) looks back on this day and understands there were good people looking out for him.”
