Rob Morrison, an anchor on CBS’ New York affiliate WCBS, has been accused of choking his wife at their Connecticut home. Police arrested Morrison on Sunday and he is out on $100,000 bail.
According to The Associated Press, Morrison’s mother-in-law called police Sunday afternoon, reporting that he was in a dispute with his wife, CBS MoneyWatch reporter Ashley Morrison. Darien, CT police said that Morrison had his hands wrapped around her neck. The officers at the scene claim that Morrison was making even more threats as he was being cuffed.
The New York Times reports that the couple released a statement downplaying the incident.
“Rob and Ashley Morrison are cooperating fully with the authorities to insure that all of the information necessary to properly evaluate this unfortunate incident is made available,” the statement reads.
Morrison was in court on Tuesday and documents revealed the couple’s troubled marriage.
According to The New York Daily News, the documents show that there were eight reported incidents at their Manhattan home from 2003 to 2009 that involved police. In four of the domestic abuse cases, Ashley said Morrison was drinking.
At the courthouse, Morrison said that he loves his wife “more than anything” and reiterated the couple’s previous statement. “I did not choke my wife...I’ve never laid hands on my wife. I was just as surprised by that particular charge as probably everyone else was hearing about this story,” he said.
A WCBS spokeswoman refused to comment on the matter.
