White House publishes photo of President Obama shooting skeet, shuts down claims to the contrary

By Sarah Burbank-Douglas,

The White House released a photograph of President Barack Obama skeet shooting last summer in order to prove that the comments made by the President of the United States that he frequently participated in the sport were in fact accurate.

The photograph follows widespread discussion on implementing stricter gun control laws. The president was asked if he had ever fired a gun in an interview with The New Republic, USA Today reports.

Obama responded to the publication stating, “Yes, in fact, up at Camp David, we do skeet shooting all the time."

Tennessee Republican representative Marsha Blackburn contested Obama’s responses, saying, “If he is a skeet shooter, why have we not heard of this? Why have we not seen photos? I think he should invite me to Camp David, and I'll go skeet shooting with him. And I bet I'll beat him."

The White House responded to claims by posting a photograph on Flickr, captioning the photo, “President Barack Obama shoots clay targets on the range at Camp David, Md., Saturday, Aug. 4, 2012.”
