Will 'Up All Night' be canceled following Christina Applegate's departure?

By Sarah Burbank-Douglas,

Christina Applegate rendered Up All Night fans speechless after she announced she would not be returning to the series that focuses on her and costar Will Arnett.

Now audience members are left to wonder what storyline will be put into place to make Applegate’s absence make sense or if NBC will cancel the series all together.

According to E! News, no reports have confirmed what the future of the series holds, but most likely the show could be pulled as no other storyline would make sense unless Applegate is replaced by a ‘mistress’, which viewers probably won't accept.

As we previously reported, Applegate announced her departure following news that the series would undergo major changes.

When Up All Night's creator Emily Spivey left, changes began with the show switching from a single camera format to multi-camera at the beginning of next season.

Applegate released a statement following the news of her departure saying, “It’s been a great experience working on Up All Night, but the show has taken a different creative direction and I decided it was best for me to move on to other endeavors.”

“Working with Lorne Michaels has been a dream come true and I am grateful he brought me into his TV family. I will miss the cast, producers and crew, and wish them the best always.”

NBC has not commented on Up All Night’s future as of yet.
