The Washington Wizards have struck down the New York Knicks 106 to 96, and snapped their five-game winning streak. The Wizards are in the habit of beating the top teams around the league.
It’s very odd when you see a team with the record of 13-35, which is the second worst record in the Southeast division of the Eastern Conference, beating the top teams around the league. The Wizards have beaten the Miami Heat, the Oklahoma City Thunder, and the Knicks.
When Knicks’ Tyson Chandler was asked about the game in an interview, he told the New York Post, “If we want to accomplish our goal, we have to get ready for games like this and get up for games like this. We were simply outplayed and we can’t allow things like this to happen. We have to stick to the game plan and, if the game plan doesn’t work, we have to make adjustments.”
Teams tend to underestimate teams like the Wizards, and it ends up being a huge mistake. Teams that have bad records like this want to play hard for respect and show the fans that they can play with any team in the league. Wizards John Wall states just that in his post game interview. He told the Washington Post, “Most teams like us, in our situation, we get up for those big games. You want to prepare for those big games. You know it’s going to be a packed crowd. You don’t want to get blown out and start hearing the boo chants and stuff like that. Basically we’re just competing. We’re competing against every team we play against, no matter who it is. We know those type of teams are capable of knocking you out pretty early, but we just keep fighting.”
Wall finished with a team-high of 21 points. The Wizards next game is against the Brooklyn Nets Friday night.
