Is the 'X-Factor' being turned into a musical?

By Stephanie Kaplan,
Reports are coming out that the popular competition show will be the basis for a new Broadway play

Simon Cowell, judge and creator of The X Factor in the U.S., has been hinting that the singing competition show will in fact take its chances on Broadway. While the television version exists in several different countries, there are no reports on where the first version of the musical would release.

According to Perez Hilton, the musical centers on a poor young girl who auditions for the singing competition. Another character reportedly will be based off Cowell, himself.

The N.Y. Post reported that there was recently a workshop for the musical. In this trial run, Alexander Hanson, Broadway-veteran who starred with Catherine Zeta-Jones in a recent revival of “A Little Night Music,” portrayed Cowell’s character. Cowell reportedly was "howling with laughter" at Hanson’s performance.

If anyone doubted his commitment to the project, at the end of the show, Cowell said, “In case you’re wondering, I am behind this show 100 percent and will put my money in it.”

The star took to his Twitter to express his feelings on the production.

There is no word yet if the musical has received the official green light for Broadway.
