This pretty little secret is out! ABC Family announced today, March 26, that their hit Pretty Little Liars has been given the green-light for a fifth season. In addition to this news, the network shared that a spin-off for the show, Ravenswood, will air this October.
According to Entertainment Weekly, the news was first released through social media channels for the program. Producers of Pretty Little Liars – I .Marlene King, Oliver Goldstick, Joseph Doughtery and Lesile Morgenstein – will all be working on Ravenswood as well. It was stated that the show will premiere following the special Halloween episode of Pretty Little Liars.
E! Online reports that I. Marlene King recently tweeted to fans saying that they'll have to wait a bit longer to find out which familiar characters will be in the new show. She added, “Like Rosewood, Ravenswood has dark secrets."
Entertainment Weekly shared that a released said, Ravenswood will “center on a town, not far from Rosewood, PA (the home base of Pretty Little Liars), which has suffered under a deadly curse for generations. Five strangers suddenly find themselves connected by this fatal curse and need to dig into the town’s mysterious and terrible history before it’s too late for each of them.”
It was reported that ABC Family president Michael Riley said, “Pretty Little Liars is brand-defining and demo-defining for ABC Family. We are proud to be able to grow the PLL franchise in two ways–both by adding additional seasons of the original and by extending the storytelling into a spin-off. Ravenswood will become another ‘must-tweet-TV' series for us.”
Season 4 of Pretty Little Liars starts June 14.
