Actor Mohamen Mehdi Ouazanni is playing Satan on the History Channel’s The Bible minsieries. Some people think he might look a little bit too much like President Obama, causing some to speculate. Was this intentional or just a coincidence?
It wasn’t until conservative commentator Glenn Beck noticed that the resemblance caught wider attention, according to New York Magazine. Beck, who has praised the series in the past, wrote “Anyone else think the Devil in #TheBible Sunday on HIstory Channel looks exactly like That Guy?”

Since that tweet, more people have commented on Ouazanni’s resemblance to Obama in the series. When the episode aired on Sunday, some on Twitter noticed it and were shocked. However, as Mediate reports, others thought it was just a coincidence.
The situation is reminiscent to last year’s Game of Thrones controversy, in which it was discovered that President George W. Bush head was shown on a pike in the season one finale. HBO and the show’s producers said nothing was meant by it, but they still apologized and edited it out for the DVD release.
The Bible producer Mark Burnett and History haven’t said anything about Ouazanni’s resemblance, so people will continue to speculate until they do.
Ouazanni has appeared in The Four Feathers (2002) and The Ten Commandments (2002)
UPDATE: The History Channel has issued a statement, defending the series and noting that they have the "highest respect" for the president.
"This is utter nonsense," Burnett and Roma Downey said. "The actor who played Satan, Mehdi Ouzaani, is a highly acclaimed Moroccan actor. He has previously played parts in several Biblical epics -- including Satanic characters long before Barack Obama was elected as our president."
