Alison Pill and Jay Baruchel call off engagement

Alison Pill and Jay Baruchel have called it quits after a two-year engagement, due to long distance pressures.

Baruchel and Pill met on the set of Goon and were engaged in December 2010, reports Us Weekly. The couple had plans to wed in an intimate ceremony in the vineyards in Quebec two years later.

The September 2012 wedding never happened. In an interview with Times Colonist in February, Baruchel explained how their lifestyles kept them from having their dream wedding.

“Unfortunately, we're two busy people who are intrinsically lazy. So in our free time the last thing we want to do is book flights and organize hotel rooms for people. But it’ll happen at some point,” Baruchel stated.

…Or maybe not.

The first sign of trouble came from Jay’s social media. Although he later deleted the messages, he posted on Twitter on February 16, “Alone again, naturally. Heartbroken. I won’t be on Twitter for awhile gang. Getting dumped rules.”

Then, when Pill attended PaleyFest for HBO’s The Newsroom on March 3, she was alone, and without her engagement ring.

An insider attributes their breakup to frequent time spent apart working on their individual projects.

“Working and living in Canada is something that [Baruchel] is very passionate about. He wanted her up there more often, but she really likes Newsroom and the opportunities that are there for her," the insider explains. "They were doing the long distance [thing] a lot," the source claimed.
