Amazing Race recap: "I Love Monkeys!"

Last week, we ended on a cliff-hanger where none of the teams except for Dave and Connor had checked in to the Pit Stop yet. And even though they had managed to meet their goal of coming in first, there was no way of knowing if they would stay in the race—which was continuing straight away, with no rest. Are they bowing out so Dave can let his ruptured Achilles heal properly? Or are they going to do their best to keep going?

They’re going to stay! They are on their way to Bali, Indonesia. They decided it was not worth giving up and they can go another leg. Jessica and John placed second, with Bates and Anthony and Pam and Winnie right behind them. Closing out the first half of the leg were Joey and Meghan, Caroline and Jennifer, Mona and Beth, Max and Katie and Chuck and Wynona.

Once in Bali, teams made their way to the Monkey Forest Sanctuary, where they were to give a monkey a coconut in order to receive their next clue, for the detour. For the detour, they could choose “Sandy Bottom” where they would correct sand from the bottom of the hill and transport it 200 meters uphill to the brick maker, or “Fruity Top,” where they had to prepare a traditional fruit dish and transport it to a temple for a blessing. All teams chose “Fruity Top,” except for Mona and Beth.

Jessica and John went to the wrong location for the Detour and started creating the wrong offering before they realized they were in the wrong place, giving the other teams a chance to catch up to them. They also ran into trouble at Fruity Top and decided midway through to switch to Sandy Bottom.

Pam and Winnie finished first, with Dave and Connor and Max and Katie right behind, and then headed to a Surf Beach for their next clue, where they encountered a Road Block, where one team member had to find a surf board featuring the picture of the priest who blessed them in Bora Bora. Once they found the correct surfboard, they had to bring it to the Pit Stop, but could not check in unless they had the correct board. If they were wrong, they had to run all the way back to the boards and do it again.

Against all odds, Dave and Connor got to the Pit Stop first, finishing in first place AGAIN, this time winning $5000 each, and beating Pam and Winnie when they couldn’t find Phil. The girls then checked in second, with Max and Katie right behind them in third. After three attempts to get it right, Caroline and Jennifer checked in fourth. Joey and Meghan checked in 5th, with Mona and Beth in 6th after a 2nd attempt. Bates and Anthony checked in 7th. Chuck and Wynona got the coveted 8th place slot. After failing to get the correct board, not utilizing their express pass, and switching the detour, Jess and John were the last ones to arrive at the Pit Stop, and were eliminated, making themselves the second team to make history tonight, by being the only team in history to get eliminated without using their Express Pass.
