ABC News veteran correspondent and The View host Barbara Walters is reportedly poised to retire next year, according to multiple reports.
Deadline first reported that Walters is set to retire in May 2014. The site’s sources say that ABC is planning to do a full-blown retrospective of her 52-year career with specials and other programs that pay tribute to her work. It is not known if she would completely retire or if she would occasionally contribute for specials or interviews.
It’s been long rumored that Walters is planning to retire. Back in December 2011, she was reportedly overheard saying that she will retire during an interview with President Obama. ABC said that she was just joking.
She only recently returned to The View after a bout with chicken box and recovering from a fall during Obama’s inauguration in January.
ABC News has not commented on the report, which states that Walters will make the announcement herself. If she does indeed leave The View, she will follow in Joy Behar’s footsteps. It is also rumored that Elisabeth Hasselbeck in on the way out as well.
