'Biggest Loser' Recap: 'Down To The Wire'

By Drew Barile,

The latest episode of The Biggest Loser was moving, tense and affirming. It was tense because of the red line and yellow line at weigh-ins and the weekly challenge. The episode was very moving because each coach had sat down with the remaining contestants to review their progress. The contestants also met with the Doctor H to review their progress. For example, Danni gain 19 pounds of muscle. The children contestants also met with Doctor Joanna to review their progress. Very affirming for the children and their parents and moving for the viewers.

The episode was very brief compared to previous episodes as the contestants are 'Down To The Wire.' The show ran its usual length however, there was no significant gym workout to watch or drama to be had. Everyone worked hard, Jackson threw up and Gina's alleged ankle injury was present. But all and all a non-eventful gym session, comparatively. The contestant were nothing but business and had their eyes on the price. Also the episode mainly focused on highlighting the contestants progress.

The videos that both adult and children contestants viewed drew many tears from most everyone, including Bob the trainer. Jackson expressed his thanks to Dolvett for saving his life. Bob was touched by Jeff's progress. Jeff admitted he would not had ever lost the weight if not for the show. Joe felt he had found himself through the process. Danni was so shocked to see herself previously that she could only well up in tears. She stated that the show made her feel worth something.

The challenge was so intense and there was a clear overtone of making a point to the contestants.

The challenge required the contestants to trudge with a sled up a snow hill. But they also had to incrementally add weight as they went further up, at flags marked with a week. The flag were marked by the weeks at the ranch so far, and ultimately the contestants had to haul their starting weight up to the apex of the hill to complete the challenge. Joe won, gaining the one pound advantage at weigh-ins.

The last chance work out was charged as always. Although Danni for once was having trouble and very worried. Jillian noticed Danni disposition and tension. She therefore took her aside to have a chat with her. Jeff and Bob had a very emotional moment. Jeff had described Bob as a father figure. Bob had also expressed to Jeff that he inspired him. Bob added that he never would want Jeff to revert to his former self. Bob told Jeff his father was proud of him, and tears were had with hugging.

The weigh-ins were slightly different as those below the yellow line were subject to viewers voting for them to advance. The red line was the same, if someone fell below it they were subject to elimination. Joe weighed in at 239 pounds. He lost only five pounds. Jackson weighed in at 230 pounds, losing only five pounds also. Gina lost only two pounds, however she was happy about the lose and Bob comments her attitude. Jeff lost eleven pounds weighing 265 pounds. Danni lost eleven pounds too! Danni weighed in at 163 pounds. So Jeff and Danni are automatically in the finals, where as Joe and Jackson need to be voted to advance. Gina was eliminated because she fell below the red line.

The Biggest Loser finale is on Monday March 18, NBC.
