Danielle Fishel is on the cover of the new issue of Maxim and shares stories about being on Boy Meets World, but didn’t reveal any new information on the spin-off, Girl Meets World.
In the magazine, Fishel explained how show creator Michael Jacobs came up with the name Topanga, the character she played in the hit 90s sitcom. “He happened to be driving past Topanga Canyon, so he said, ‘Topanga,’” she recalled. “He says that if they had called him two miles later, I would’ve been named Canoga, which is the next exit.”
She was asked to explain how the show still lives on in people’s memories, even though it ended 13 years ago. “We were in people’s family rooms every Friday for seven years,” she said, describing the old episodes as “like watching home movies, so I imagine that other people feel the same way.”
During the interview, she also shared a bizarre Bob Saget story, in which he asked if anyone had any coke while they were on a private jet. “Then he looks my dad in the eye, laughs, and closes the curtain. My mom was like, ‘What was that all about?’ Fishel remembers.
She recently met with her co-stars Ben Savage, Rider Strong and Will Friedle for dinner. “We went to Rider’s house for dinner, and it was one of the more fun evenings I’ve had in my whole life. With the news of Girl Meets World coming out, we were kind of like, well, let’s actually have a reunion.”
Fishel will be returning for Girl Meets World, along with Savage. The show will be about Cory and Topanga's daughter and will be in contention for a slot on the Disney Channel in the fall.
