Bradley Cooper finally opens up about father’s death

By Lena Finkel,

After losing his father back in January of 2011, it seemed Bradley Cooper’s perspective changed on nearly everything. Two years later, Cooper finally opens up about how his father’s death changed his life.

The actor’s father passed away at the age of 71 after a long battle with lung cancer, People reported at the time. Cooper was there the entire time to stand by his side.

According to Metro UK, he told GQ, “I watched him dying and I was there by his bed watching him, breathing with him, and then I saw his last breath and he was gone. I experienced the whole thing. And that was a watershed moment that I was privileged to experience. And it changed everything. Nothing has ever been the same since.”

Not even the Oscars could tempt him. He continued, “I don’t want to win an Oscar. It would change nothing. Nothing. The things in my life that aren’t fulfilled would not be fulfilled. Career-wise, right now, it’s better that I don’t win one. I don’t want to win. I don’t.”

The actor is very close to both parents and took his mother as his date to the Academy Awards this year.
