Bret Ratner’s 'Hercules' gains Rufus Sewell

By Ricky Riley,

Rufus Sewell will play Autolycus. He will be joining Dwayne Johnson who will play Hercules for MGM's Hercules.

According to Deadline, the film has been in some developmental woes of late. The film centers on the bastard son of Zeus.

Hercules is an exile. He fights as a mercenary and has come to like his fellow comrades in war. However, one battle will change everything, forcing him to welcome his mythological heritage.

Autolycus is a clever thief from Greek myth. He was the son of Chione and Hermes, and the grandfather of Odysseus. It is unsure if the film will keep his origin the same. In today’s movie industry it is possible that his origin will be different.

The film was written by Ryan Condal. However, Evan Spiliotopoulos has rewritten the script after many revisions, reports Super Hero Hype. It will be produced by Barry Levine and Beau Flynn. The film is set to be released July 25, 2014.

Sewell is currently starring in the play Old Times at the Harold Pinter Theater in London.
