Brian Williams, Matt Lauer, Anderson Cooper among candidates to replace Alex Trebek on 'Jeopardy'

By Sarah Burbank-Douglas,

The longstanding trivia show Jeopardy may be seeking a new host in 2016 as Alec Trebek’s contract is set to come to an end.

L.A. Times reports that Trebek, who has hosted the hit game show since 1984, will be 76 years old when his contract comes to an end and is unlikely to sign on for an additional three years as he previously did. Now, reports say Today host Matt Lauer and CNN journalist Anderson Cooper are in competition for the hosting job.

The New York Post notes Lauer as its top contender for the competition, while Deadline notes the likes of Cooper, Brian Williams, Dan Patrick in addition to Lauer.

As of now, there is no current frontrunner.

Deadline notes that Sony TV is not currently seeking Trebek’s successor, and have told the longtime host that he can hold the job for as long as he wants.

Jeopardy continues to dominate in the ratings, averaging a 10.0 household rating.
