CBS’ pilots in development are going to have to be really good because only a few of them will make it to air, especially since the most-watched network has renewed a whopping 18 shows for the 2013-2014 season.
As the network confirmed in December, How I Met Your Mother will be back for a ninth and final season, while The Big Bang Theory, 2 Broke Girls and Mike & Molly will also get additional seasons. The network did mention that it is in talks with Warner Bros. Television to bring back Two and a Half Men. If it is renewed, it will be Ashton Kutcher’s third season as star.
On the drama side, both CSI and NCIS have already been picked up. NCIS: LA will get another season, as will Person of Interest, Hawaii Five-0, The Mentalist, Blue Bloods and The Good Wife. Freshman drama Elementary received a second season.
The only dramas not renewed include freshman series Vegas and Golden Boy. Vegas is on a break and will return on Fridays next month, while Golden Boy just recently started and airs on Tuesdays, in Vegas’ old slot.
Criminal Minds and Rules of Engagement were also not mentioned.
CBS also picked up the news magazines 60 Minutes and 48 Hours, as well as reality shows The Amazing Race, Survivor and Undercover Boss.
