Constantin Films to Produce 'Monte Cristo' with David Goyer as director

By Ricky Riley,

David Goyer has agreed to direct an adaptation of the Alexandre Dumas’ revenge tale called Monte Cristo.

According The Hollywood Reporter, Goyer will be remaking the revenge tale with Resident Evil producer Jeremy Bolt.

The film will focus on Edmond Dantes. He is a young man who was falsely jailed on a prison island. Set in France 1800s, Dantes meets an inmate that informs him of a fortune. The young man escapes and seeks revenge on the man who took his lover away.

Michael Robert Johnson will write the script. Goyer is famous for his work on Christopher Nolan’s Batman Films and the upcoming Man of Steel Superman film. The two hope to make an action packed film similar to the recent Sherlock Holmes films, reports IGN.

The novel has had multiple adaptations in the form of two movies, plays, and a TV show. This is not Goyer’s first time behind the camera as a director. He directed Blade: Trinity, The Invisible and The Unborn.

There is no set release date and no actors are attached at this moment.
