David Letterman finally reveals why 'Spring Breakers' director Harmony Korine was banned from his show in 1998 (Video)

Spring Breakers director Harmony Korine has been banned from David Letterman’s late night show, and James Franco tried to undo that ban while he appeared on the show this week.

Franco stopped by Letterman’s show on Monday night, where they discussed Korine’s 1998 exile. It’s never actually been confirmed why Korine was banned, but now the secret is out.

Before the reveal,Franco explained “the legend is that he pushed Meryl Street backstage,” and that at that point he was “a little off the rails” and could’ve been “on something that night.” Letterman revealed the real reason.

“I went upstairs [to the green room] to greet Meryl Streep,” Letterman revealed, Uproxx reports. “I looked around and found your friend, Harmony, going through her purse.”

He then told Franco and the audience, "I said, OK, that's it -- put her things back in her bag and get out of here," The Huffington Post reports.

Korine said if he was asked back to the show, “I would do it in a second, if he asked me back.”
