Another horrific tragedy has occurred at a school involving gun violence. Rather than taking lives of other students, a student took their own life. On Thursday morning, an eighth grader brought a gun to school and ended their life far too soon.
Wxyz.com for Channel 7 action news, a Michigan news station, reported that a boy was found in the bathroom with a self-inflicted gun show wound to the head. Another student found the boy and action was taken immediately. The student was transported to the hospital where he died.
Furthermore, according to The Detroit News, the 13-year-old used a .40 caliber Glock handgun and pulled the trigger around 8 a.m. before classes started. The school was on lockdown for about an hour, and then parents were contacted immediately and were instructed to pick up their children from school.
The motive behind his suicide has not been released - the only information authorities have released is the fact that the boy left a suicide note, but there was no indication of bullying.
Thomas Coombs, director of Public Safety for the area stated, "It appears that it may have been a suicide note," Coombs said. "He does address a specific person, apparently someone he knew from the school." The note was found with the boy at the hospital.
