By Alexi Knock,

Ellen DeGeneres recently posted a letter on her blog urging the Supreme Court to overturn Proposition 8, allowing gay couples to be married in California.

In the blog post, Ellen writes “Portia and I have been married for 4 years and they have been the happiest of my life. And in those 4 years, I don't think we hurt anyone else's marriage. I asked all of my neighbors and they say they're fine."

According to Yahoo News, DeGeneres married actress Portia de Rossi in 2008 when marriage was briefly legal in California.

DeGeneres added in the letter that she hopes the Supreme Court will overturn Prop. 8 when faced with the issue in court.

The talk show host also touched on what it was like to come out to the world in 1997. She wrote, “Coming out was one of the hardest things I ever did.” DeGeneres was featured on the cover of TIME magazine with the caption, “Yep, I’m Gay,”
