As I am getting off the train on a dreary and rainy Tuesday afternoon, I am thinking the following: what does a busy mommy of two have any business heading to the extremely upscale salon in Midtown Manhattan? As I step of out of the cab on 57th Street, I do a quick hair sweep checking for cheerios or goldfish that may have gone “astray” earlier in the day at home and head into the elevator straight to the top floor.
I am greeted by the reception staff who immediately take my coat and bags and set me up for my appointment. Within two minutes I am being handed a delicious cappuccino and shaking the hand of stylist to the stars: Mr. Federico Calce. We discuss my hair color and style and what I would like to do and off I go to begin my makeover.
First up: my color transition from red to my more natural brown hue. My colorist Agnes expertly informed me that while it is difficult to remove red all in one shot she would certainly do her best. That she did: within an hour, this girl was back to brown and well on her way to some amazing blonde and caramel highlights. Federico came back to check in and agreed this was a much better color for me. They both gave me some pretty cool color tips; I had no idea that if you are getting a single process and highlights your stylist should be blowing your hair out between treatments. So often I am running in and out of hair salons trying to fit my own needs into a very small slot on the family calendar. It was a true pleasure to sit there and not be rushing onto the next daily activity. I was truly soaking it up.
Final step: sitting in Federico’s chair for my hair cut. There is something to be said about sitting in a master stylist’s chair (where countless stars and models) have sat before you. As he started cutting my hair, Nat King Cole's “Unforgettable” was playing in the background and I said to myself “hmmm I could get used to this." Federico gave me some great tips for keeping the thickness and frizz of my hair at bay and before I knew it the final phase was complete and I was transformed.
I truly felt spoiled from beginning to end; everyone on staff was warm, inviting and made me feel very comfortable. I was a truly “unforgettable” experience and I am very grateful for the opportunity. I went in a red head in a bun and came out with stunning blond highlights and a shine to my hair that was simply amazing.
