French Montana’s tour bus target of drive-by shooting, leaves one fan dead

By Daniel S Levine,

Rapper French Montana’s tour bus was the target of a deadly drive-by shooting in Philadelphia that left one fan dead and another injured.

According to NBC 10 Philadelphia, the rapper, who has worked with Drake and Lil Wayne, and his entourage were meeting fans outside a Holiday Inn Thursday night. Someone drove by the scene, opening fire and hitting a 27-year-old man in the stomach. Authorities say another person was hit in the shoulder. The 27-year-old was later pronounced dead at the hospital.

“It's just ignorant,” Police Commissioner Charles Ramsey said. “You fire into a crowd and you're gonna hit somebody. In this case, unfortunately, someone was killed. Don't know if they had anything to do with anything, if they were a fan or what.”

Police are still questioning 25 witnesses, including French Montana.

Chief Inspector Scott Small told The Associated Press that police do not think that the rapper or the victims were specifically targeted. However, they do not have any suspects in custody. Small also said that a person may have fired back.

The shooting comes just weeks after Rick Ross was targeted in a drive-by shooting in Florida.

Montana recently told MTV News that he was with Ross the night before the shooting. “I was like the last person that walked him to the car before he drove off,” he said. “When it's your birthday, you think everybody loves you. You're not thinking nothing of it ... You just always gotta protect yourself.”

Montana is scheduled for a show in Boston today, but police say that he will probably have to cancel the appearance.
