Johnny Knoxville turns 42 today!
Born in Knoxville, Tenn., Philip John Clapp grew up to be among the most distinguished stuntmen and comedians in the industry.
Upon high school graduation, Knoxville moved to California to pursue his acting dream. Knoxville then appeared in commercials, and an extra in movies and TV series.
Other than acting as an extra, he wrote and contributed ideas to articles in various magazines.
He and a friend Joseph Sperry teamed up to create Jackass, a show that would give him his big break. Both of them were responsible for most of the show's idea. Before premiering in MTV, both of them reportedly turned down an offer to do the stunts on Saturday Night Live on a weekly basis.
Even though he had reached his big break with Jackass, Knoxville was still featured in some movies. He acted in Dukes of Hazzard, Lords of Dogtown, and The Ringer. He made and performed stuns in the movies sequel for Jackass, Jackass: The Movie, Jackass Number Two, and Jackass 3D.
Knoxville has a production company, Dickhouse Productions, operated by himself, Jackass sequel's director Jeff Tremaine, and Spike Jonze.
