Happy Birthday, Reese Witherspoon

Reese Witherspoon turns 37 today.

Born on March 22, 1976, Oscar- winner Witherspoon was born in New Orleans, Louisiana. Her father is a doctor and her mother is a nurse. But Witherspoon was motivated to take acting classes when she was 7, when she was selected as a model in a TV advertisement. She later attended Stanford University as an English literature major, but she dropped school one year later to pursue an acting career.

Even in her early movies, Witherspoon already got attention from critics and was nominated for several awards like Young Artist Award Best Young Actress for The Man in the Moon, Best Actress Award at the Cognac Police Film Festival for Freeway and Golden Awards for her performance in Election.

In 2001, Witherspoon played Elle Woods in the film Legally Blonde, which had grossed $96 million domestically. The success of the film also won Witherspoon title as “the new Meg Ryan”. She continued her sweetness on screen, including comedy Sweet Home Alabama and Legally Blonde 2 and Just Like Heaven .

In 2004, Witherspoon played June Carter Cash, the second wife of country music singer Johnny Cash, in Walk the Line with Joaquin Phoenix. Her performance won her the Oscar for Best Actress. After winning the Oscar, Witherspoon kept appearing in different kinds of films including fairy-tale Penelope, political thriller Rendition and romancic comedy This Means War.

Her recent films are Mud, which will have a limited release on April 26, 2013 and Devil’s Knot, which will be released on Oct. 24, 2013.
