Hawaii Five-0, Na Ki’i' Recap

By Cheryl Hollar,

The episode begins with a chase involving Duane “Dog” Chapman, who plays a bounty hunter after a three-time loser who decides to evade police. The scene ends with a girl falling from an apartment building to her death atop Dog’s parked SUV.

Next scene is McGarrett and his mother paddling the waters of Honolulu before breakfast. He gets a call and meets Danny at the scene.

Max is there, tells the pair this may not be an accident. The way the girl fell is suspicious.
She also has suspicious bruising on her body.

The girl’s name is Dana Brown, a kindergarten teacher. Kono finds her cell phone, with nine ignored calls from her ex-boyfriend, John Hanson.

McGarrett and Danny pay Hanson a visit. He has an alibi.

Back at the Medical Examiner’s office, Max sprays the victim with blue dye in search of an injection of a drug called GHB. Dana’s blood showed traces of a fatal dose of this in her system.

A ticket stub, found in Dana’s pocket, is traced to the Kapiolani Recreational Center.

When McGarrett and Danny go there, they find Dana’s picture on a Roller Derby poster under the name of “Dicey Hot.”

They go inside and interview a couple of the players as well as the coach. McGarrett discovers Dana was the only jammer and tryouts for a new jammer are that afternoon.

Catherine is sent in, unwillingly, undercover.

Meanwhile, McGarrett’s mother, Doris, comes home to find a thief is robbing her. She catches him with a certain box from the safe and proceeds to attack him. He eventually gets the better of her and runs, box in tow.

When Catherine only places second in the tryouts, McGarrett has the winner arrested for outstanding parking tickets. Catherine is now in first place.

At practice, she takes a photo with her cell of a man arguing with one of the players, Crimson.

When this man is traced by Chin, Five-0 finds out his name is Ted Landry, and he is involved with betting on the team. Though McGarrett and Danny locate and arrest him, he also has an alibi.

Catherine tells McGarrett about Sugarsticks, the jammer for one of the toughest opposing teams, the South Shore Sirens. Catherine relays information from Crimson that Sugarsticks and Dana may have had connections off the track.

It is discovered that Sugarsticks had a child who recently enrolled in Dana’s school.

When Chin traces the license plate number of Sugarsticks as she leaves practice, he finds out her real name is Dr. Sharon Morgan, a Pediatrician in Kahala.

Danny and McGarrett pay her a visit and find out that Coach Blair showed favoritism toward Dana, to the point that there was much jealousy on the team. Dana was even considering quitting.

Meanwhile, McGarrett gets a call, and goes to the hospital to check on Doris, who is in the emergency room. He tells her she is going to stay at his house until a safer place is found.

Catherine meets McGarrett at Doris’ house and thinks it’s a good time to let him in on the secret about Mangosta that she shares with Doris.

McGarrett is furious that she has held something back from him, and he breaks up with her.

Catherine is able to download information from Coach Blair’s computer and send it to Five-0, where it is learned his real name is Larry Banks, and he is an ex-con from Seattle who drugs women and posts pornographic pictures of them. Dana must have found this out, and he killed her with what she believed to be a cortisone shot for her injuries. It was really an injection of GHB.

When Crimson interrupts Catherine in the coach’s office, he sees her leaving and believes it is her who has found out his little secret. He has a member of the opposing team injure her in such a way that he will not let her back into the game until she gets a cortisone shot.

When she finally agrees to get the shot, he takes her to his office and knocks her to the ground, unconscious. He ties her up and is about to administer the fatal syringe when Catherine stops him. Danny and McGarrett arrive shortly afterwards.

McGarrett confronts Doris, who tells him there was a microfiche under the floorboards of his house, then in her safe. This microfiche contains reports from her covert operations. McGarrett is angry that she brought it into his house, and he leaves.

He goes to Catherine, and they make up.

As the episode ends, Doris makes a mysterious call to a man who she tells she won’t be safe for long.
